âIT WAS SUCH a great game!â
âDid you see that pass?â
âJohnson scored more in the beginningâ
âThat was totally Chadâ
âThink weâll go to finals this year?â
As her cheer-mates chattered about the nightâs victorious game, Chelsea fell out the loop. She was all smiles without the glee. All eye contact without seeing any of them. Hair free from the tight ponytail, she sighed in relief, glad it was over. Of course, there was still the after-party and she had to show face being the head cheerleader, but she was tempted to skip it.
And do what?
These days just werenât as exciting as they used to be. She was tired of the same faces, usual scenery, the typical clichés, hell, even dating the same guy of one yearâwho also happened to be the star player of their basketball team. Go figure.
She was good at faking it, lying to their face. But the honest truth? She hated these boring fuckers with excruciating passion.
âChels!â One of her groupies hollered from the locker doors. âWeâll wait outside.â
She really wished they wouldnât. In the beginning, she liked it. Enjoyed having that kind of power over them, having them at on her every beck and call. A lot of shit fell into her favor being the student bodyâs Instagram worthy icon, gorgeous, buxom in all the right places.
But they got old. They got boring. Their attention span for her had been depleted, and she herself losing patience, becoming impatient for something new.
âIâm riding with Paul. Iâll meet you guys there.â
Like the good followers they were, they headed off with pouts on their faces. Wouldnât take long though before they started the shit-talking in the car.
Good riddance.
But that still left her with one more problem. Paul wasnât as annoying as her clout, but he tended to lay on the overdose of dutiful boyfriend, killing her with affection she didnât exactly care or want most of the time. Why couldnât he be more careless? He was meant to be a drape on her arm, not a pillow to smother her.
Foot braced against the concrete wall, she stood outside the guyâs locker room, passing the time on her phone. The door opened, and she nearly snapped at him in annoyance for making her wait so long, but caught herself.
âOh. Hey, Coach.â
Justin Oswald aka Coach Oz, wasnât anything interesting to talk about or look at. The average Joe, living his average life of being a high school coach because he yearned for something he would never have again. Dark hair and dark eyes. Tall and a bit on the stocky side despite his age. He was a favorite among the students. But she couldnât figure out why the girls found him so attractive.
He was boring as hell to put it mildly.
âHey!â He said cheerfully. âPaulâs girl, right?â
âYep.â She returned his smile with a fake one. âIs Paul almost ready?â
âPaul?â Locker door was shut and locked before he faced her. âHe left with the guys almost an hour ago.â
What the fuck?
Right on cue, her phone chimed with an incoming text.
